The annual National Inter-school Gymnastics Championships
is once again approaching, only in a matter of months. Our school gymnasts
are feverishly preparing for the once-a-year competition, which will
be held in Bishan Sports Hall this July.
As the captain myself, I have spoken to the team regarding
our final goal this year, and that is: four champion team titles from
both Artistic Gymnastics and Trampoline. As challenging as it seems,
we are more than determined to achieve this main objective. And so is
the school, thankfully we are funded by the school this year in the
purchase of new apparatus.
Pegasus, the evolutionary new vaulting horse, will be
introduced into local gymnastics competition in years’ time. The
team has purchased a model, for the gymnasts to get accustomed to the
different vaulting horse in preparations for the inter-school competition,
and to ensure a higher degree of safety in vaulting. Ergojet(the name
of the model TCHS has ordered), is expected to arrive by late February,
all the way from German manufacturer, Speith.
And in case you have not noticed, the school gymnasium
has included a new horizontal bar, in place of the former one.
Other than these, we are attempting new daring approaches
to improving our gymnastics skills. The team is now using two digital
video cameras to record individual’s routine. The gym website
will then post the recorded videos in accessible format, not only for
gymnasts to learn and correct their technical mistakes, but also to
further improve their routines.
